ABOUT ME

See? Better with whiter teeth : )

Who the freak cares about taking good pictures?
Who the heck cares about which shaving cream you use on your legs?
Who the stink cares about why Kate Gosselin is so irritating?
Who the fark cares about saying like every third word?

Well I do.
Except for the second one. (Skintimate.)
And I say totally every fourth word.
But not Totes.
Kill me if I ever say Totes.
For serious.

So, I started taking pictures when I was little. I took a camera on the fifth grade field trip, I took pictures of giggly fourth graders doing lopsided pyramids on the playground. I took 4 rolls of film with me on my overnight backpacking trip with my first serious boyfriend and used up every single frame. (Weirdly only one of those pictures has survived. I wonder what happened to the other 143? Well, it was deep creek and when we went there were 50 naked people enjoying the hot springs, including a very very fat man who had on -not kidding- a hat, sunglasses, a loaded backpack, some serious hiker socks and some even more heavy duty boots and not a stitch of torso clothing- so maybe its just better that those photos have vanished.) I took 17 rolls of film on our honeymoon and ran out the fourth day in. Joe discovered the not so fun side of new bride : ) Just kidding. He took all my picture taking very seriously. Still does : ) I never go anywhere without my camera. I've upgraded twice and will continue to go bigger and better, I don't care what the purists say I love photoshop and everyone looks better with whiter teeth, and digital photography is the greatest baby birthed from technology EVER (and yes I am including flying cars and the Star Trek replicator machine that pop out anything you want that will both be real things one day. Still better than that.) It's a part of my being.
Why?
Because I love photos. I am the girl who will sit on your couch and happily look through every photo album in your home. I read National Geographic magazine and run the ink with the drool from my mouth. I side with the aborigines. Photographs do indeed take a piece of your soul, though I think that's a good thing. Who doesn't want to be remembered? Taking something, a party or a baby or a wedding or the dog licking the inside of your sleeping husband's mouth and creating something that can potentially last forever, cheats death.

I've been watching too much Supernatural.

The point is, photos hold a lot of power for me. I look at one and see the world beyond the photo, the sentiment behind it, the memories associated with it. It's a box of life. It gets Melanie to sound like a cheesebomb. A photo IS. A photo LIVES.

Music is the interpretation of something the artist wants to say. So is painting and every other kind of art.
But.
In photography, this moment is what this person saw with their eyes. This is actually seeing what the photographer saw. Understanding visually the beauty that went straight into their brain. There is nothing more powerful than that.

And I want to be the best. Not the best as in better than everyone else, but my best. I want to take my own breath away. I want to take my own breath away because I took all the STUFF that goes into taking a great knowledgeable photo (its math for people who hate math. Its a numbers and data demon who will torture you FOREVER) and then I developed it and then I looked at it and stopped breathing because
THERE IT IS.
THERE is the THING that made me FEEL THAT. Or the person I'm taking pictures for, that thing that made them feel THAT.
And no matter what THAT is, it deserves to be honored.
THAT is beautiful.
And when you preserve it so perfectly that when you look at it every emotion comes back to you JUST AS STRONG as when you first felt it? That takes your breath away. So I won't stop until I can hit that every time. Get that every time. And I'll die still trying to acheive that because it really is unacheivable but its like crack. You NEVER stop wanting it.
(Having never done crack I am of course the top authority on that.)
Revision.
It's like CHOCOLATE. You NEVER stop wanting it.
